Animal Instincts

Quest Realm: Midgard

Background

As discussed in Chapter 9: The Word Of Fate, you can take on the first of 4 Kol Raider camps to start this quest, should you be able to manually traverse into said camp after hearing a raider to your right.

Once you have the raider’s voice to your right, try and walk forward and follow it around in what seems to approximate a kind of rounded wall/edge. Currently, I won’t be able to give specific instructions as to how to enter the camp, unfortunately.

Entering the camp, you’ll get the new area sound cue, and be able to attack them without them noticing you at first. These raiders do fire damage in spades, so be mindful of dodging their attack, particularly the heavys who take centre stage and give you shield strike opportunities as well.

Once defeated, you’ll get some dialogue talking about Kol Raiders, as well as a quest sound cue after Freya and Kratos say Perhaps we should do something about them….

As usual, this means in this instance that you can track by rapidly pressing the up arrow then listening for the tracking quest response from the game itself, through another audio cue.

The Quest Itself

Once you’ve tracked the quest, simply follow nav assist, which will lead you right into the camps and battle your way through, interacting if needed. Do note that with the build you’re likely to have at present, this will not be an easy set of fights.

Keep an ear out for what enemy types are present, be that all melee or a mix of melee and ranged, as that can also dictate how a fight ends up going and any strategies you might be able to use.

During my tests, after fighting the second camp overall and on the way to the third, I heard the sounds of what turned out to be a frost troll to the right.

Optional Boss Fight: Visi Haglkorn

If you wish to take him on, be aware he’s very powerful, much like the raiders, though he is also not immediately aggressive.

If you want to get into his range, turn towards him and run in and if successful, you should traverse up a small platform and hear the rage cue as well as his theme music begin.

My suggestion would be to stay at range and hit him with as much stun as you can, since getting close means you’ll be prone to damage from some attacks that aren’t easily telegraphed.

Once you get the cue for a stun finisher, which can take a while to happen, you can run in to finish the job.

End Of Boss Fight

Whether you take the troll on or not, start navigating to the next camp when you’re ready.

The wolves may get you stuck on a rock before you can go to the camp itself. If this happens, re-board the sled, then move backwards for a while, then dismount and run towards the camp as if your life depends on it.

Once you’ve got past that though, as it seems to be a fairly consistent occurrence, you’ll have some traversal involved via a blade grapple and a climb (the latter serving as your checkpoint).

There’s a mix of melee and ranged raiders here, but the ranged ones are the biggest problem, as they seem to have a large explosion that activates at a point near death.

They’ll thankfully scream a lot when initiating this, so avoid the yelling ones and take everyone on from as far away as possible.

Defeat these enemies, go back past the troll (if he’s still alive) and, before you enter the next camp you have a chance to hit another stationary raven.

Once you reach the final camp and have defeated everyone, Freya will say Kratos! Their Chieftain!, which will checkpoint you at:

Boss Fight: Oluf Nautson

This raider chieftain is the most powerful one you’ve faced yet, with wide attacks and high damage, once again utilising fire.

Thankfully if you die here, it’ll checkpoint you before his entrance as described previously, though you do have to run into the camp to spawn him in again.

During one attempt at this, I changed my relic to the Glave Of Dodher and rage to fury prior to battle and levelling both up to 3, having not used any XP up to that point.

I would suggest giving yourself space to fight this boss, given that if you run right up to him at the start of the fight, you are trapping yourself in a confined area. Be aware that there are vocal cues that can help you dodge the patterns of attacks, but don’t get greedy with your own retaliations either.

If you have a resurection stone and are completing this battle during Chapter 9: The Word Of Fate, I would suggest trying to avoid using it if you can due to some later fights.

End Of Boss Fight

After beating him and collecting the loot, navigate to your final interact prompt to trigger a cutscene and earn a trophy, as well as quest completion heralded by the associated sound cue.

Side Quest Opportunity

After the quest completion, you might hear mention of a frozen lightning bolt and a reference to Tyr’s statue, part of a separate quest.

If you want to, you can start said quest, Guiding Light, from here by tracking the Mysterious Orb quest. This statue-related venture earns you a new set of armour if completed successfully.

Alternatively, you can return to whatever else you were doing in-game, including completing the main story if you haven’t done so already.
