In this chapter, you play as Atreus
Immediately following the cutscenes that ended the previous chapter, you’re thrown right into combat.
I’d recommend attacking these various enemies from range, given their relatively powerful up close.
First battle done and Atreus pointing out he needs to find some shelter
, you may need to nav assist a few steps to be beset by more enemies, though depending on how the initial fight goes this may not occur. When they have been beaten, you’ll get more dialogue.
Walk to the next interactable to start moving a log, where you accidentally tumble down a gap.
Quest updated, nav assist, with Atreus saying That doesn’t look good
. In this area, there’s an enemy that isn’t immediately aggressive but will spot you and start attacking, initiating a spoken tutorial about what is essentially a new, stronger wisp and throwing you into combat.
This enemy defeated (using light arrows for damage as per instruction), then heavy+light arrow combos, nav assist onwards and Atreus will say More ravens… You tryina tell me something?
.
Nav assist to an interactable where Atreus talks about what his father thinks, then falls. After recovering, nav assist into what was a very brief battle during my tests (with a single wisp), with more enemies round the corner from you.
Defeating this next group, nav assist and fight off at least one heavy enemy, after which Atreus will ask Where could I go?
.
The next interact on your path starts a climbing sequence. When you have reached the top, keep nav assisting and dropping down until the nav assist seems to stop working, with a small haptic cue. This is actually an interact prompt.
With Atreus having asked Who am I kidding?
, press interact to traverse, then continue onward.
You’ll enter a new area, identified as Freya’s house
, then receive a quest update. Nav assisting from here will eventually trigger a cutscene.
After the cutscene, the next interactable will close the window. Then, there is a quest progress update and Atreus will say Should be able to make a fire with all this mess
.
Before you light the fire in question, you can actually find a few interactables around here, though they are not mandatory.
When you do hit the interact that lights the fire, a long cutscene triggers after some dialogue from Atreus, ending with That’s not an excuse
.
Cutscene over, you’ll get another quest progress update. From here, just keep nav assisting and eventually, somewhat inevitably, you’ll reach combat.
Enemies defeated, nav assist and autotraverse until you find some more opponents.
Here, you’ll actually get a tutorial about using sigils with Atreus during combat, much as you’ve been able to do with Freya.
Dealing with these and any others that await you around the corner, nav assist and you’ll eventually come to an interactable that starts another climbing sequence, where Atreus asks What am I gonna say to Odin?
.
When you have reached the top, more enemies appear, after the defeat of which Atreus will ask the question How do I get past the wall?
.
In order to begin answering that question, walk to the next interactable and start climbing again.
When you have reached the top of this next climb, make some jumps via autotraversal and use the next interactable, starting a:
Puzzle:
Here, you have to clear brambles by using Sigil arrows, much as you’d do with Kratos.
- Nav assist until your feet stop moving. Walk left until you can aim and get either a heavy attack cue or an ammo switch cue, both of which can be found in the glossary should you wish to look.
- Press up on the DPad to switch to Sigil arrows if you haven’t already. If you’re in the right place and aiming, you’ll hear a heavy cue much as you would with the blades.
- Fire a heavy sigil arrow at the spot and it should burst into flames immediately, with Atreus responding with
there we go!
if successful.
End of puzzle.
After the puzzle, walk to the next interactable and hit it to traverse. From here, nav assist until Atreus says Wait. That sounds like people.
Walk a few steps more to trigger a cutscene, where he meets SkjÖldr.
After the cutscene, you’ll get another quest progress update, and it’s time to climb the wall.
Walk to the next interactable (albeit slowly, though nav assist does still work here), then walk to a second interact to start the actual climb.
Whilst climbing the wall, you’ll get various pieces of dialogue from Atreus.
Keep climbing and use the interactables to move on, though you may have to move left or right to get nav assist to re-orient on occasion. Climb until a battle is triggered.
Wisps and white dealt with, move around until you find a heavy arrow cue. This might be a little tricky to find depending on how much moving you did during the last fight, but once you do, with nav assist pinging to your right during my tests, shoot it with a sonic arrow to destroy some sound stone.
This releases a chain, allowing you to continue onwards once you nav assist and interact with it. Keep climbing until the next battle is triggered.
There are a lot of enemies up here and some might require some manual movement for you to reach. If you can’t see an enemy and nav assist doesn’t work, chances are the enemy is one you’ll have to get in range for.
After this battle, use the interactable to trigger some dialogue, where Atreus says Yeh, up… I get it.
. Nav assist some more until you come to and interactible, initiating a longer traversal than normal into what turns out to be the start of a
Puzzle
- From here, keep nav assisting until you are on what sounds like a platform. Immediately stop moving and then aim.
- If you get a heavy arrow cue, hit this with a sonic arrow to shoot some sound stone, which Atreus will respond to with some dialogue about needing to
hit both sides
. - Now Nav assist off of the platform, turning left if you need to. You’ll hear the platform move again when you’ve stepped off of it.
- Nav assist and walk forward to drop down, then use another traversal interact prompt.
- Just aiming from here without hitting nav assist should put you in a direct line with the second piece of sound stone, which you can shoot with another heavy arrow cue.
- If successful, Atreus will say
Nice, this might work
and you can progress. - Nav assist to turn 180 degrees and moving forward slightly should allow you to interact twice with the points in front of you for a back-to-back traversal.
- After this, you should be able to nav assist back onto the platform itself and hit one final interact to complete the puzzle, with Atreus saying
here we go
when you hit it. - This interact essentially flings you up to a ledge above you, where there are even more enemies.
End Of Puzzle
After that brief skirmish, keep nav assisting into yet another climb, where you should notice the wind picking up.
During the next part of this climb, there might be an interactable which is difficult to get close enough to activate. If that happens, look a little to the right to get close enough to have the prompt automatically trigger the traversal. If it doesn’t trigger automatically, just hit it and continue onwards.
Keep climbing, using all the interactables to progress and shifting if needed to get nav assist to orient correctly. Eventually, you’ll trigger a cutscene.
.
After the cutscene in which you are introduced to a rather unfriendly character, you’ll get a quest update and can navigate your way forward, though you won’t be able to sprint.
With a small haptic element, you’ll realise you’ve ended up on a lift, conversing with your latest acquaintance even if they aren’t happy to see you. During the next few pieces of dialogue, you realise that this is Heimdall.
When you arrive at your destination, you’ll meet a creature named Gulltoppr after a little nav assisting. Use the interactable prompt to get on Gulltoppr’s back, though the prompt can be a little tricky to locate at times. You’ll get a guided tour through the village to the Great Lodge, during which There is no need to nav assist or move at all, at least for a while.
Tour ended, your guide shows his true colours, in that you are led into a combat scenario. Take down your foes and be prepared for surprise attacks, though these Einherjar warriors are nothing compared to the next challenge.
Standard foes beaten, you are now tasked with fighting Heimdall himself. As much as you might try (and maybe even want to), you can’t hit him. Keep trying to attack or stand and block him constantly if you so choose, until a cutscene is triggered where Thor and Odin both putting in an appearance.
After this rather tense cutscene, you’ll get another quest progress update. Walk and follow Odin through the village, while discussing how Kratos took the news
. Additionally, you’ll end up talking to a variety of individuals, with Hrist and Mist being mentioned, as well as Queen Gna.
Eventually, after much talking and a few raven transitions, you’ll reach your own room where Odin says when you’re ready [… meet me in my study
and to help yourself to a change of clothes
.
From here, nav assist to an interact prompt and you’ll open a wardrobe, where you can change your clothes. You will find a new uniform, an Aesir bow and a Runic recharge accessory, all of which can be individually collected by pressing Square for each one.
Additionally, whilst at this screen, Triangle will open a separate menu to let you upgrade your gear and circle will close the wardrobe.
If you’re in the upgrade menu, which uses the same sound cue as the Dwarven shops when it loads in, press Right arrow once, and then you’ll be presented with a list of 2 bows, should you wish to change.
If you do decide to change, the Aesir bow is the second item, so go down once. Then, hold Square to craft the bow, and then press X to equip it. It fires regular arrows in a burst, and you’ll lose the stun capabilities of your original bow that you’ve been working with since the start of the game.
Once crafted, you are back in the menu with the 2 bows again, and you should have the Aesir bow selected. You might be able to upgrade it to level 2 by holding square again, should you wish.
When you are finished, regardless of the bow you’ve chosen, repeatedly press Circle to back out of the menus and Atreus will close the wardrobe.
Please note: If you have access to OCR for this menu, you can read which weapons can be upgraded, their abilities etc.
Please also note that you have to equip the armour manually, with it being purely cosmetic.
To do this, press your touchpad and then R2 or L2 until you get to armour. From here, press Right arrow once then go to the top of the menu which should be the Aesir uniform.
Finally, pressing X should equip it and you can back out of the menus.
When you are ready to leave the room, use Nav assist to find the door’s interact prompt. This triggers a cutscene where you’ll be introduced to Thrud, another member of Ragnarok’s cast.
After the cutscene’s done, nav assist your way through some more dialogue. Eventually, you’ll arrive in Odin’s study, triggering a further cutscene.
From here, post-cutscene, follow Odin to another longer non-interactive sequence. In trying to get to it, you might get stuck on geometry as you try. Just keep moving left or right occasionally to get around it).
Said cutscene marks the end of the chapter and the start of chapter 8, Into The Fire, once it completes.
