Conscience for the Dead

Quest Realm: Vanaheim

Note: These instructions should be followed during Freya’s Missing Piece.

Literally after unlocking the quest and tracking it via the up arrow press method, nav assist to the boat and get in.

Row through Freya’s dialogue about her feelings towards the situation with her wedding sight (see Freya’s Missing Piece for more information) and keep rowing. The first dock you come to won’t be the one you want, but I would suggest disembarking anyway then re-entering the boat just in case.

Get back in the boat then keep rowing, nav assisting every two pulls of the oars (or strokes) to keep you on track worked well for me. Freya will say about Seidr markings, keep rowing further on and she’ll say Gunhild’s companions can’t be far.

You’ll come to another dock, disembark here and you’ll see a stationary raven up ahead and to your left which you won’t be able to hit at this point at least.

You’ll see companion cues, but you’re looking for is a light axe throw cue. Hit this to break a structure in the distance, then continue onwards, keeping an eye out for Vanaheim’s characteristic folding plants.

Find an interact to traverse through to the next area. Nav assist forward slightly and look to your left to hit that raven mentioned previously, where you’ll also hear dialogue about the friends of Gunhild who, as Mimir puts it, don’t look very friendly any more.

Combat will begin after you either aggro the enemies or provoke them from range. Dispatching these rather explosive foes, nav assist onward. Don’t throw anything here until you get to a folding plant to your right, as you’ll likely trigger an explosion to be used in combat instead from a different kind of flora.

With two exploding plants removed from your path and a third requiring a second axe throw to take out, nav assist into more combat.

This small number of enemies dealt with, nav assist past a spitter plant and take on another foe or two.

Once that’s out of the way, move through this area which is actually filled with multiple spitter plants, though be careful as poison and a shielded foe await you around the next corner after you drop down.

Heavy enemy removed, nav assist your way back towards the spitter plants and aim to find an ignition prompt. Hit this to remove one plant from in front of you.

Keep nav assisting onward until you find an interact prompt slightly to your right and one in front of you. The right-hand of these is a blade shortcut so hit that before you go onward.

Nav assist to the traversal you used near the beginning of this area, moving left if nav assist gets you stuck to extricate yourself. Note that nav assist seems to like to bring you back to this point pretty regularly, so be patient if this happens a few times in a row.

Once you’re back in the open, run forward and you should see an interact prompt in front of you. hit this and Mimir will acknowledge that it’s a rune read with some dialogue.

If you manage to get to an area with some reverb (and Freya potentially asking you to look at something), you should be back out where the boat is. From here, you can nav assist to it and interact to get back onboard.

Row, again utilising the nav assist every two strokes method, and you should eventually come to a dock. Once you get there, you should be able to nav assist directly to Gunhild and speak with her to finish the quest once you trigger the optional conversation.

On a comparatively humorous note in spite of the circumstances, you are now able to return to whatever other activities you have available.
